Dr. Birx Praises Local Officials For Coronavirus Mitigation Efforts

(Washington, DC)  — The White House coronavirus task force is hopeful the pandemic is slowing down, although we have not yet reached the peak.  Dr. Deborah Birx praised local officials Friday for their mitigation efforts, including the mayors of Washington, DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Denver and New Orleans.  She says projections for new cases in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island are being dramatically changed to show fewer cases than originally expected. Rates of increase in Boston and Chicago are stabilizing and Birx also praises the swift responses of California and Washington state officials.  Birx says it’s clear Americans are united in social distancing and that should be very encouraging to healthcare providers on the front lines.

Additional quotes:

Birx says officials in all spheres are working together to change the course of this pandemic.

“We are incredibly proud of our public health leaders at the city level at the state level at the federal level.”

Dr. Anthony Fauci says this promising data should not encourage people to abandon the guidelines.

“This is not the time to feel that since we have made such important success in mitigation that we need to be pulling back at all.”
