(Washington, DC) — Recent outbreaks of coronavirus are significantly smaller than outbreaks in earlier states. Response Coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx says this is because of successful mitigation efforts like social distancing. She says cases in Washington, DC; Baltimore; and the Philadelphia metro area are growing more slowly compared to outbreaks in Washington State, New Jersey and New York. She says she’s hopeful for strong recovery rates, adding that in Louisiana, hospitals are starting to report a minimum of 40-percent of COVID-19 patients coming off ventilators.
